Carnival in Araque

Every year hundred of families meet at the shore of the Lake San Pablo to attend at the different cultural, artistictic and sport activities that take place at the Araque Aquatic Park for the carnival.  

San Juan Inti  Raymi - summer solstice

The origin of the Inti Raymi comes from the Inca Empire in Cusco. Its aim is to worship the Andean gods, give thanks for the harvest and exalt the Mother Earth. 

Since it is a tratitional indigenous celebration, each ethnic group and community has its own date of celebration. In Araque it starts on the 23th of June with the ritual bath in the Lake San Pablo and it concludes on the 27th in the Aquatic Park. 

Crossing the   Lake    San Pablo

For more than 70 years hundreds of swimmers come to the Lake for the Yamor fest. In this competition the participants try to cross the lake, a total lenght of 3500-3800 meters. 

Virgen  del Quinche

One of the most well-known fests of the village since there is a deep devotion for this beloved Virgin. The Aquatic Park celebrates this date from the end of November until the beginning of December with fireworks and live music among others.
